Welcome to Winterover.com!
Sorry about letting this site go past-due on an update!
The reunion
of the South Pole winterover 1993-1994 crew finally happened during the
weekend of August 21-22 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. You can
read about it on the Reunion page. I've also
updated the Gallery and
added some photos taken during the gathering.
As only a small portion of our crew was able to make it to the reunion,
everyone agreed that another gathering in the future would be the thing
to do.
I, as well as the others, would very much like to thank Janet, our reunion
organizer and gracious hostess, for putting this all together and doing
the legwork to make sure that we had a nice place to stay. I had a great
time! It was so nice to see the familiar faces...even after ten years
everyone still looked the same, minus the beards on the guys! ;o) Of
course, we did a lot of reminiscing and recalling of some highlights
of our season on the ice. Trying to remember names and dates was a challenge
for some of us, and simple for others. I'm pretty sure most of us felt
like ten years had not passed, like it was only yesterday that we were
sitting in the galley having our usual late-night discussions. That was
what the winterover experience was all about, in my opinion. Developing
that sense of comradery, or family-like familiarization. We worked
together through thick and thin, not always like a well-oiled machine
mind you, but more like a semi-disfunctional extended family. heh, not
quite Brady Bunch, more like the Osbournes.
Anyhoo, thanks to everyone for making it happen. Here's hoping for an even bigger
turnout the next time we get together. :o)
